How far would you go to save your marriage?
This book follows the story of Lou and Josh, a married couple with two children. At the start of the new year, Lou decides to give her marriage a year, focusing on one goal per month, whether that is daily sex or completing a project together.
I must admit I got very emotionally invested in this book and could feel my heart break for the characters throughout the story, but I did enjoy it.
Some of the couple’s issues were small things that we can all relate to such as: ‘was it what happened under a pile of disappointments, sleepless nights and towels left on the floor?’ It is a realistic view on relationships.
There are larger issues at play of course, which are shown through flashback chapters detailing their relationship from the day they met.
What I enjoyed most was the portrayal of Josh’s point of view. Not only were we understanding how Louise viewed the marriage but also what Josh was thinking, which definitely shows how important communication is in a relationship.
The only critique I have is in relation to the ending, for me the decision was reached quite quickly and I had trouble comprehending the thinking of both characters.
I would reccomend this book to anyone in a long term relationship. We all get tired and live busy lives, and this book can show you the importance of working on relationships, second chances, looking after yourself and pursuing dreams.
