Review: The Awakening by Nora Roberts

Mists, shimmering silver fingers, rose over the pale green water of the lake. They twined and twisted toward a sky of quietly grey, while in the east, over the hills, a pink blush waited, like a held breath, to awaken,

I have yet to find a Nora Roberts book that I don’t enjoy. She is my favourite author by far. Whether the book is written under the name Nora Roberts or JD Robb, I always enjoy it and this is no exception.

This book is a story of becoming and finding your place in the world (or worlds). It follows the main character Breen, who has been led to believe she is just an average person who will never be special in anyway. Throughout the book, she must fight against that ordinary feeling that has been ingrained into her since birth and realise that she is actually extraordinary.

After some initial events, Breen discovers she is actually not from this world, but another called Talamh, a world full of other beings such as witches, fairies, dragons and elves. It is a world of magic and the world where her long-lost family is from.

There is evil lurking around Talamh and Breen must learn about her heritage to help stop it, as that of course is her destiny. And with all good stories, there is also the amazing best friend, the cute puppy and a potential love interest, but they don’t overshadow Breen’s journey to discover herself and what makes her happy.

I just can’t fault anything written in the pages of this book. I absolutely devoured it all.

Nora Roberts is a phenomenal storyteller. She has the ability to draw the reader into the story so much that it envelops you and makes you feel as if you personally know the characters. I just think it is amazing that time after time, her books never fail to disappoint. How does she keep coming up with new and amazing stories?

The only thing I can say, is that I do hate trilogies because when they are new releases you have to wait a year for the next one!
